| June 2004 – Members of our Department represented the field of anesthesiology at the ASA legislative conference in Washington, DC. The conference allows physicians and lawmakers to review issues pertinent to the field of medicine in general, and anesthesiology in particular. | ![]() |

| June 5, 2004 – The faculty and staff bid a fond farewell to this year’s graduating class. The event was held at the Eden Roc Hotel on Miami Beach and was marked by presentation of certificates and awards, dining, and of course, dancing. | ![]() |

| May 2004 – Administrative Professionals’ Day was celebrated in our department with cake and festivities. We were given the opportunity to thank the many people who keep our large machine oiled and well running! | ![]() |

| May 2004 – The 2004 Gulf Atlantic Anesthesia Residents’ Research Conference was held in Miami Beach. Dr. Gallagher led a group of talented residents from our program, bringing further recognition to our residency program. | ![]() |

| April 24, 2004 – Dr. Lubarsky was presented an award at the First Annual Minority Academic Scholarship Awards Banquet, hosted by the Center for Minority Studies. The award recognized the department’s continuing success in providing services to members of the community regardless of race, income, or other demographic factors. | ![]() |

| April 2004 – Participants of the Spring 2004 Leadership Skills Development Program attended a simulation program at the Patient Simulation Laboratory. The group had the opportunity to evaluate to role of high-fidelity simulation in the field of medical education. | ||
| March 30, 2004 – Faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology were recognized at the Doctor’s Day celebration. The annual event is a chance for the community to recognize those dedicated individuals who work hard to maintain the public’s physical and mental health. | ![]() |

| March 27 – 31, 2004 – Several faculty members, residents, and staff members represented the Department at the International Anesthesia Research Society’s annual meeting in Tampa. The meeting offers anesthesia professionals from around the world an opportunity to discuss new developments in the field. | ![]() |

| March 2004 – Dr. Lubarsky is named the first holder of the Emanuel M. Papper chair in anesthesiology. The position was created to honor the legacy of Dr. Papper, a pioneer in the field of anesthesiology and pharmacology. | ![]() |

| Feb. 13 – 15, 2004 – The Annual Anesthesia Conference was held at the Royal Palm Crowne Plaza Resort in Miami Beach. The meeting hosted visiting professors representing various fields of expertise, as well as lectures by our own faculty members. |

| Jan 22, 2004 – Dr. Lubarsky presents the annual state of the union address to the Department of Anesthesiology. This year’s address focused upon the growing amount of research undertaken by our faculty, as well as the national recognition of our residency program as a premier training location. |

| Jan. 2004 – Drs. Paul Barach and David Lubarsky are presented with a grant for $125,000 to further study the role of simulators in nurse training for patient safety. The grant, presented by Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart, was issued by the US Department of Health and Human Services. | ![]() |
