Dr. Paul Gluck received his B.S. degree in Life Sciences at MIT and his M.D. degree at NYU School of Medicine. He completed his post-graduate training in OB/GYN at the University of Miami School of Medicine where he remains on the voluntary faculty as Associate Clinical Professor. Recently retired from clinical care, Dr. Gluck is a Fellow at the University of Miami Center for Patient Safety where he will participate in on going research and professional education. In addition he will help apply patient safety principles to improve clinical care at Jackson Memorial and University of Miami Hospitals. Dr. Gluck has held many leadership positions. He served as President/Chair of the William A. Little OB/GYN Society, the Miami OB/GYN Society, the Florida OB/GYN Society, the Baptist Health Foundation, the Health Council of South Florida, the Florida Section of the American College of OB/GYN (ACOG), National Patient Safety Foundation as well as the Dade County Medical Association. He is currently ACOG Assistant Secretary and serves on their Executive Committee. Safety and quality are among Dr. Gluck’s current passions. He was a founding member of the National Patient Safety Foundation and is the immediate past Chair of the Board. He also chaired the ACOG Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee. He chaired the ACOG Presidential Task Force to incorporate patient safety into post graduate medical education and serves on another Presidential Task Force to improve safety in the ambulatory environment. He has presented over 160 lectures, written 5 textbook chapters, edited a monograph, produced a video education program and published numerous articles on quality improvement and patient safety. In 2004 he was appointed to the National Quality Forum Technical Advisory Committee to develop a standardized taxonomy on patient safety and medical error and in 2008 to an Expert Panel in support of Patient Safety Organizations. In 2005 served as a consultant to RAND in evaluating team function in high risk environments and to the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to evaluate patient safety implementation and simulation research grants. Dr. Gluck, along with his wife, Dr. Joan Gluck, published the first prospective study of asthma and pregnancy which received awards from the ACOG as well as the American College of Asthma, Allergy & Immunology. An area of their ongoing clinical research, they continue to publish articles, lecture and author chapters on asthma in pregnancy. |
