Recently re-verified by the American Burn Association (ABA) and American College of Surgeons, the Burn Center at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital remains one of only 63 burn centers in the nation and the only one in South Florida to earn the ABA’s highest honor. The Center’s verification will continue for another three-year cycle.

Joshua D. Lenchus, D.O., associate professor of medicine and anesthesiology and associate director of the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Center for Patient Safety, received a $750,000 grant from the Florida Medical Malpractice Joint Underwriting Association (FMMJUA) for a two-year study titled “Minimizing Iatrogenic Procedural Complications: Reducing Thoracentesis-Induced Pneumothorax Incidence.”
Earning a medical degree was a step in the right direction for Abhinav Gautam, M.D., voluntary assistant professor of anesthesiology. But it was during his residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital that the 32-year-old began to see the bigger picture, and he set off on a path toward entrepreneurship to help solve what he calls “massive inefficiencies” in healthcare.
The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Pain Medicine Fellowship Program is the recipient of the 2014 Pain Medicine Fellowship Excellence Award from the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM). This is the first time the program has won the highly competitive award, which annually recognizes one program among all ACGME accredited institutions in the United States.
